Lotusland Tour
August is one of the best times to visit
this most unusual living museum of
gardens. The lotuses and water lilies
are blooming and the water gardens are
at their sparkling best. Polish opera
singer Madame Ganna Walska
purchased the 37-acre estate in 1941
and turned it into a delightful labyrinth
of landscape adventures. Even after her
death in 1984, her botanical collections
of aloes, bromeliads, cacti, succulents,
cycads, ferns and palms have improved
and increased. The visit to Lotusland
involves a two-hour, docent-led
walking tour. Please wear appropriate
clothing, walking shoes and a hat. The
group will leave Descanso promptly at
8 a.m. and plan to be back by 3 p.m.
Fee includes round-trip bus fare,
admission to Lotusland and lunch.
