Mix (Reception)
The Chouinard School of Art is
pleased to present Mix, a group show
curated by Ed Flynn and Laddie John
Dill. Mix features work by nine
Southern California artists, all of
whom are currently students at
Chouinard under the tutelage of artist
Ed Flynn.
With its inception in Flynn's
dialogue class, Mix organically grew
out of the teacher working directly
with every student, guiding and
nurturing each one's vision, and
culminating in what you see before
you. Much like the communities in
which we live, Mix brings together
various styles, aesthetics, and ideas
without compromising individual
integrity and always with the ultimate
purpose of achieving unique self-
_expression and the capacity to share
this with others. Each of these artists
were committed to developing their
work to new levels. The Chouinard
School of Art provided this
opportunity through the Dialogue Class
and it evolved into this group show.
Laddie John Dill and Ed Flynn both
attended the original Chouinard Art
School in downtown Los Angeles
during the mid sixties. Both artists are
members of the Chouinard School's
Advisory Board in South Pasadena.
EXHIBITING ARTISTS:
Cynthia Paige Aaron creates
assemblage with a wide variety of very
personal hand picked objects, then
orchestrates them into statements
related to her worlds.
M.E. Dolan received her BFA from
Carnegie Mellon University. Her
paintings are a record of a trip to
Havanna, Cuba with her husband,
Cuban born writer director, Luis
Remesar. Stills from documentary film
of Cuba provide the emotional context
for these paintings.
Laura Johnston, BFA, San Diego State,
showing collages representing her
commitment to merge the uses of
printed material, fiber, painting and
assemblage.
Nuttaphol Mas work involves chance
and making a conscious effort at being
present in order to respond to his
surroundings. His installation piece
entitled ladders tells his personal
narrative of his ancestral past to the
present.
Patrick Quinn works with found object
discarded memories found at swap
meets. Salvaged doors, windows
combined with old snapshots aid his
path in search of the provocative and
personal.
Jean LeCerf Richardson's works reflect
her deep involvement with the natural
world and the complexity of human
relationships. She synthesizes her bio-
behavioral research with her artistic
expression.
George Rosenfeld, American, born in
Germany, BFA Cal State Northridge,
Graduate study, Claremont Graduate
School.
Susan Sironi's work reflects social or
emotional expectations and
perceptions, forming the core of her
art. Her work involves using oil paint
and optical lenses.
Keith Ullrich, Pasadena born artist and
musician. He works in collage and
assemblage.
